Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) handbook
Waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) has been on the agenda of governments, industry and non-governmental organizations for more than 20 years. In the early 1990s it seemed a relatively straightforward issue to deal with. The consistent application of the ‘producer responsibility’and ‘polluter pays’ principles was expected to keep the societal debate simple and to quickly result in legislation which would be unambiguously applied in all member states of the European Union. Ecodesign and, in particular, design for recycling were supposed to assist in achieving high recycling rates and elevated levels of toxic control.
