Journalism and digital content in emerging media markets
The digital microcosms of journalism in Eastern and South Eastern Europe, as the research demonstrates, are at the same time both distinct from and integral to, the greater mediatic transformation and should be analyzed and understood in this context. In truth, all the issues under consideration are part of a larger global debate and phenomenon that is affecting more “established” media markets in other ways. We argue that while the consequences of the digital revolution on the media are comparable in essence across borders and result in a “homogenization” of challenges in both established and emerging markets, distinctive factors in emerging markets create further limitations and challenges regarding journalistic practice and content production, that has consequences on public debate and democracy in this region.
