Text
Advocacy Networks and the Responsibility to Protect
This book provides a novel understanding of how R2P-related knowledge,
activism, diplomacy and administration impact global politics. On the theor-
etical level, it challenges the (critical) constructivist understanding of norms
by demonstrating the importance of individual agency and the impact of sci-
entific knowledge, diplomatic influence, bureaucratic capabilities or practical
experiences on R2P’s circulation through complex networks. On the empirical
level, it analyzes the advancement of R2P through the framework of circulation
politics. The concluding part elaborates on the conceptual building blocks and
discusses who are the key R2P advocates, what do they diffuse and how do they
circulate R2P through existing formal and informal networks.
