Production-integrated environmental protection and waste management in the chemical industry
The present trend in world trade is best described by the term “Globalization”. The concept conveys the rise of the global corporate economy, i.e., the interconnection of the national economies with their individual goods and capital flows, caused by the
removal of barriers to trade and companies’ global orientation. This has led to an increased interdependence of production in various countries. Foreign investment is of great importance in order to be represented in important markets.
However a second dualistic element of globalization has become apparent. This is the total field in which all economic processes occur. To be exact: the environment in which and from which we live. This is described by “ecology”. Thus we have an economic-ecological paradigm. However this does not mean that these two elements should lead to a win-lose outlook in the sense of a zero sum game. In fact we should strive for a mutual win-win outlook, i.e., a give-take strategy.
